     Revised August 21, 2010

*******************************************

A mistake or "miscommunication" on our rained-out race of May 16, caused us to review a long-standing policy and make a change that probably should have been made at the beginning of the year since we started to allow buybacks in all classes at that time.  A driver was allowed to buyback into the second round after he failed to make the first round at our May 16 race.  He was unable to crank in the staging lanes and consequently did not take the tree.  He bought back and we did not discover this until we printed the points and he received none as he lost in the second round, too.  He questioned us via e-mail to find out why no attendance points were awarded.  The Compulink was set to award "attendance" points based on a first-round loss.  On the following Friday, Dorothy, Lamar, Tim and I met to discuss this and the consensus was that we should change our unwritten policy on this to accommodate drivers in such situations. We gave this particular driver the option to take his points or refund his buyback and give him a broke ticket.  Points were not an issue in this case, but the driver offered to let us keep the money anyway and keep his points.

Again, it is probably a bad idea to change a long-standing policy, even if unwritten, during a season.  Before being too critical of this, keep in mind that you may be the driver who can't crank in the first round and need points, and my be the beneficiary of this change before the season ends.  In short, it's our goal to accommodate you if at all possible and it's good business on our part to try to increase the car count.  Please help us get the word out that this change is in effect and will be uniformly applied as always.  Remember that you may be the one who is in need!

We have become concerned about the possibility of tech issues in allowing drivers to enter another eliminator after being eliminated in round two.  This is not an issue for Pro ET drivers entering Super Pro, but could be a problem for Pro ET drivers entering Sportsman, since the limitations are greater in the latter.  In either case the driver is at a considerable disadvantage to those who have been running in that particular class and we don't feel that it is a good deal for the drivers who chose to reenter.  We have decided to discontinue allowing this in the interest of simplicity and time.  Drivers who have not previously entered any eliminator will still be allowed to enter and buyback if they miss the first round due to mechanical problems or late arrivals.

We have failed to catch some of our 8 and 9 year old junior dragster drivers who are dialing under 12.90 in eliminations.  This is a NHRA rule which we will have to enforce.  Starting on our September 4 and 5 event, we will have a notation in the computer which will warn us if any 8 or 9 year old drivers are violating this rule.

Later,

Ed
