We have completed our first day of tuning and testing with some very cold and at times wet conditions.  Thanks to the track crew who did a great job of keeping the track "raceable".  We'll try again next Saturday, with the gate opening at noon and open track from 1:00 to 5:00 PM.  Saturday tuning and testing will continue each Saturday though February.

Our regular season will kick off the first Saturday in March.  A very tentative '10 schedule is posted on the "Schedule" page.

We want to take this opportunity to thank all of you who voted Silver Dollar Raceway NHRA Division 2 "Track of the Year" for 2009.  The award was presented to us at the Awards Ceremony in Jacksonville on Saturday night.  Thanks also to the staff who worked so hard to make this possible.

There is a lot of exciting news from our NHRA track operators' meeting in Jacksonville.  Silver Dollar Raceway will be the site of the first NHRA Georgia Drag Racing State Championships coming up on Sunday, September 5.  This will be the second day of a two-day event for Summit Points as a part of our Jerry Barker Chevrolet ET Series.

The NHRA Summit ET Finals will return to South Georgia Motorsports Park on a date still to be determined.  The NHRA Junior Dragster ET Finals will be combined with this event.  The "Race of Champions" for Super Pro, Pro ET, Sportsman and ET Bikes will be run in conjunction with the '11 NHRA Gatornationals in Gainesville, FL.

16th Annual SDR Awards Banquet - Jan. 9, 2010

Our awards banquet was well attended Saturday night as one hundred thirty drivers and track supporters gathered to honor the drivers who gave us a great '09 racing season.  Drivers were recognized in the Jerry Barker Chevrolet ET Series, the Kroger Junior Dragster Series, sponsored by Kathy Sellers and the CSR Performance Super Street Series.  Track announcer, Chuck Wade, presided as winners in each eliminator were presented with jackets, plaques and gold cards with the largest cash reward, $1,000 going to Mark Fowler for his Super Pro championship.  Jeff Hairrington pocketed $500 for his Pro ET title and Sam Adams claimed $250 for outlasting the Sportsman field.

Jacob Phagan and Parker Suggs were recognized as champions in the 8 -12 and 13-17 age groups of Junior Dragster competition and split the first place points fund with Jacob receiving the larger portion by virtue of accumulating slightly more points during the season.  The following eight Junior Dragster finishers split the remaining portion of the $1,000 fund.

Runner-up honors were presented to Todd Whitley in Super Pro, Andy Castleberry in Pro ET, Wesley Cox in Sportsman, Reba Sellers in Junior Dragster (13-17) and Allison Townsend in Junior Dragster (8-12).

Wesley Cox was awarded the High School championship as the highest-finishing eligible driver, having finished second in Sportsman eliminator.

Ben Chancellor was presented with a gold card, jacket, plaque and a $500 gift certificate from series sponsor, CSR Performance, for his championship in the CSR Super Street Series.  Sheldon Crane was the runner-up and will receive a $200 gift certificate from CSR.

Special awards were presented to Tanya Hicks for "Rookie of the Year", Kathy Sellers for "Sponsor of the Year" and Nell Wingo received the "Ed Goddard Memorial Award".  John (Yoyo) Pewters was recognized with a poem from the Suggs family and by the dedication of the '09 Champions Year Book.

The night ended with a drawing for cash prizes presented by Mark and Vicki Fowler.  Jamie Hairrington claimed the win again for "Team Safari" as he picked the best envelope containing $400.  Three other drivers split the remaining $200.  A total of $4,250, seven gold cards, $700 in CSR gift certificates and the $600 from the Fowlers was presented as the '09 season was finally brought to a close.

    More pictures will follow soon.

Kathy Sellers "The Racing Realtor" was recognized as "Sponsor of the Year".
